Directions on how to maintain your Goldfish in a fish bowl:

  1. Wash gravel and place 10-12mm thick layer on bottom of fish bowl.
  2. Fill with water
  3. Place the correct amount of Aquatan/Aquasana (chlorine remover) in water and stir.
  4. Float goldfish bag in the bowl’s water for half an hour, as tap water will be colder than that of the goldfish bag it’s best to acclimatise the fish so they don’t get shocked (shock will cause white spot). Open the goldfish bag and add a little water every 3-4 minutes until the bag is nearly full and then gently empty water and fish into bowl.
  5. Add ammonia remover to water. This will help to maintain your goldfish bowl’s water condition by absorbing toxic ammonia produced by fish waste products, excess food, etc.
  6. Add one oxygenating tablet to the bowl. (You will have to place a new tablet to the bowl every second day.)
  7. Only start feeding your goldfish the next day (They would have eaten on the day you bought them.) Feed your fish 1 to 2 times a day, they must eat everything within 3 minutes, if they don’t you are overfeeding them. You should remove the food they don’t eat with a net so it doesn’t pollute the water.
  8. Change 50% of the bowls water every week, to keep your goldfish in good condition. Use Aquatan/Aquasana to remove chlorine from the tap water, let it stand next to the bowl for half an hour before adding it to the bowl (So it’s the same temperature as the bowl’s water).
  9. If your bowl gets very dirty you can catch your fish with a net and put them in a bag and do steps 1 to 6 again. If the gravel is stained you can replace it.

Note:

    • Do not knock on your bowl (this causes your fish to get shocked, which leads to white spot disease)
    • To improve your goldfishes colour feed them Prodac Nutron Red
    • Do Not use soap or detergents to clean bowl only hot water.
    • If the water ever smells bad or turns cloudy change all the water immediately.
    • Feed your goldfish daphnia or bloodworm once a week, this will help with digestion.
